Annual Review and Interim Newsletter

The Trustees have resolved to use Crest Publications for future Annual Reviews and interim Newsletters. This not only involves advertising to offset costs, but also gives much more opportunity to promote the Trust, partly by being able to put notices into the many other military Crest publications, but also by providing the opportunity to distribute more widely and in particular to cadet detachments. For publicity purposes, including insertion of selected reports into our periodic Trust Review, a post expedition report is required by the trustees within 2 months of completing the the expedition.

The Trust has corporate membership and 6 membership cards are held by the Hon Secretary and can be sent on request to anyone who wishes to attend a lecture or event. The Society is based close to the Albert Hall at 1 Kensington Gore, London SW7 2 AR (Tel: 020 075913000, Fax 3001 Email: info@rgs.org). Annually, over 100 events are held centrally, and also a large additional number regionally. These include lectures, expeditions, field trips and seminars. The Hon Sec holds a small number of programmes, or enquiries may be made to the RGS on 02075913100 (Fax 3059) or Email programmes@rgs.org. Events are held also in the regions.

There also is an Expedition Advisory Centre (Shane Winser 020 7591 3030. Email: eac@rgs.org) which aims to raise the quality , effectiveness and safety of all expeditions overseas. You should note the following:

• it has a database of over 6,000 summaries of previous expeditions is available with 3,500 full reports.

• there is a library with over 900,000 maps and 500,000 pictures.

• its home page on the Internet is a growing focus for expeditions and the latest information. The Web site is www.rgs.org .

• expedition publications can be purchased by post/phone/fax on prepayment with enquiries on Tel 0171 591 3030 or Fax 3031. They include the following:

• About £45,000 is awarded annually to expeditions involving research, conservation work.
