Ulysses Trust AGM – 11th July 2013

The Ulysses Trust held its 21st Annual General meeting, following a meeting of Trustees, at HMS President on the Thames on 11th July 2013.

The meeting was chaired by the Trust’s Chairman of Trustees, Col Julian Radcliffe, TD. Guest included: Julian Brazier MP; R Adml Chris Hockley, FOSNNI; AVM Paul Luker, Chief Executive of the Council of Reserve Forces and Cadet Associations and CPO (SCC) Angela Edwards, receiving the Best Cadet Expedition Award on behalf of the Marine Society and Sea Cadets.

The Meeting heard that the Ulysses Trust had had a record year with over £232,000 being awarded to help 128 expeditions involving nearly 2500 participants in the year 2012/13. A little over half were Cadet expeditions. Activities ranged from mountaineering, skiing, diving, sailing, canoeing and trekking. Over half had taken place in the UK and Europe, but some had gone to the Himalaya, Africa, the Far East, North and South America, China – even Ascension island.

Sadly, donations had not matched the rapid growth in demand for our support. With increasing emphasis being placed on the Volunteer Reserve for the defence of the nation, and on the Cadets for the contribution they can make for social cohesion, the Chairman emphasised that demand for our help was bound to continue to grow He expressed his thanks to all who had supported us during the year, both financially and otherwise, but urged all present to spread the word on the impact that the Trust can have on many young lives, and to broaden support for the Trust.
